February 24th, 2010

When building a model, it seems like we can never have enough LEGO base plates. Many varieties of LEGO base plates have been on the marketplace for a number of years, and here are some of the most common models.

This blue Lego building plate only costs about $5.00, and I’m so happy that the LEGO company finally decided to release a blue 32 x 32 because they haven’t done so in years to the best of my knowledge. This baseplate is ideal if you are trying to create an ocean setting or a beach Lego set.

The large green LEGO base plate is standard, and it seems like it has been around for decades. Lego set number 626 measures 32 by 32 studs, and is great when you’re trying to create any large landscape. Some people decide to create very large LEGO landscapes by connecting many of these thin Lego baseplates together.

If you are looking for a very large gray baseplate that measures 15 inches by 15 inches, then this may be for you. Coming in a light bluish gray coloring, this plate is much more expensive than 32 by 32 stud ones. It costs about $15.00 and is terrific for building castles or skyscrapers.

Let us move on to Lego road baseplates. Whether you are trying to create an airplane strip or a road to get around town, then the straight and crossed plates may be right for you. Item number 7280 comes with two pieces, which includes a four way intersection plate and a straight road.

Each Lego baseplate measures 32 studs by 32 studs, and these are usually highly popular and are back ordered on LEGO.com. They come in a dark bluish gray coloring, and cost around $15.00. The total measurement is 10 inches by 10 inches.

The last type of Lego road plates that we are going to look at today are curved and have a T junction. Coming with two pieces, Lego set number 7281 is ideal for when you’re trying to create road curves, and costs the same as the straight road plate at $15.00.

No matter what type of Lego bases you need in order to build your model, surely these plates will meet your needs, and is a good idea to get them soon, especially the road baseplates, as LEGO discontinues them on a regular basis.
